The Search Engine Space

If using an Internet Search Engine is key to your work based productivity I think the time has come to take stock of the main players.

The 4 largest search engines on the web are:

1. Google 56.9%
2. Yahoo 21.2%
3. MSN Search 8.9%
4. AOL Search 3.2%

However success has made a failure of Google’s happy home.

Fellow Blogger Robert Scoble pointed out a really simple test. When you Google…er….I mean search for
Google Headquarters

http://www.google.com/

http://search.msn.com/

The MSN search give better more accurate results.

Now search both Google and MSN for things close to you for example your own company website or things you are interested in.

My own results show MSN now works better for me than Google at finding stuff. Who knew.

This only means that Google are so highly targeted by Spammers/Hackers..er Search Engine Optimizers that they are being significantly less effective.

Dont worry Google the super glue you used on our eyballs is well intact and getting people to change their Search Engine is nigh on impossible.

Having said that…the next roll out of Windows (Vista) puts search at the top of the map both in and out the box.

Google is the Microsoft of the search engine space.
