Google and Sun Microsystems Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

They will be doing a webcast later today about “something”. I bet there will be some folks in Redmond watching. Could be something or nothing, we will have to wait and see.

The rumor is “Google Office”

Update: The key paragraph from the press release.

“The agreement between Sun and Google also kicks off further collaboration between the companies on projects like OpenOffice.org, the open source productivity suite that is the world’s leading suite on the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) and Linux–and the leading alternative suite on Microsoft Windows. ”

So nothing really tangible happening today, but the implication of a free Google blessed office suite cant be good for the Microsoft bods.

This presentation is worth viewing, just to see the evolution of the Microsoft Office User Interface.

User Interfaces are close to my heart. I pay a lot of attention to them.

Over the years I have created Software, Web Content and Presentations seen and used by thousands of people.

As an example users of my database systems will spend more than 100,000+ business hours per year in front of screens I have designed.

So User Interface is….Important.
