What do these have in common?

Search (browser based)

Gmail (browser based)

Firefox Alternative Browser to Internet Explorer.

Itunes Music Store, Podcasting and Videocasting Platform.

They are all technologies that are the best at what they do.

They are also technologies that Microsoft should dominate in but doesnt.

They are also Free.

When you level the playing field and let the public decide, innovation becomes key.

This doesnt bode well for Microsoft’s future of web hosted “Office” like technology.

Within 5 years there will be web browser based versions of Office competing in the “free” space.

If Microsoft cant win today, can they win tomorrow?
