live.com is Microsoft’s answer to the growing number of really smart online tools that are appearing for free.

Under the name of live.com will be things like office.live.com (a free or subscription based model for Microsoft Office).

Periodically they will create new web tools you can imagine things like mycalendar.live.com for example.

Live.com will be the default start page for Internet Explorer 7.0 so its going to get a lot of exposure, and lets face it Microsoft’s Pockets are deep.

Microsoft have to compete in this “free” space just to stay in the game.

Google, Ebay, Skype and Amazon have shown with the right level of innovation anyone can be market leader.

My own take on live.com is, its like a really rich kid showing off his bling.
