Today I have been playing with the Dell Optiplex GX520 and GX620

I had a mixed bunch

1 x Optiplex GX620 Mini Tower(3.2Ghz)
Boots to a usable Windows XP Desktop in 35 Seconds
Intel P4 640 2mb Cache 800Mhz FSB

1 x Optiplex GX620 Small Form Factor (3.0Ghz)
Boots to a usable Windows XP Desktop in 47 Seconds
Intel P4 630 2mb Cache 800Mhz FSB

1 x Optiplex GX520 Desktop (2.8Ghz)
Boots to a usable Windows XP Desktop in 42 Seconds
Intel P4 521 1mb Cache 800Mhz FSB

1 x Optiplex GX520 Mini Tower (3.0Ghz)
Boots to a usable Windows XP Desktop in 49 Seconds
Intel P4 630 2mb Cache 800Mhz FSB

The build quality is very good. The side panels are metal not plastic.

I am looking for a new Quiet but fast machine, I currently use a Dell Dimension 8300 (3.0Ghz) for various media management jobs. This machine takes in comparison 1m 10s to boot to a usable windows desktop. So the noise and speed get on my nerves, the lack of PCI express is also another nail in its coffin.

So I have decided to replace it with the Optiplex GX620, thats both silent and basically the fastest computer I have ever used. I am not really sure why the 3.2Ghz machine is way, way faster than the brand new 3.0 Ghz machines, I need to check but I think its using SATA2, whatever its doing I like it.

I like the display on the front of the GX260

Speed isnt everything I run my entire operation on a 1.2Ghz Dell Latitude X300.
