Storage is a problem for everyone, so is backing up to multiple DAT tape backups.

So for clients with large data requirements I am moving from DAT backups to Hard Disk based backups.

I chose the Buffalo Terrastation Pro 1TB model. I purchased two of them.

The client who these were for had two physical sites so I put one in each site; the sites are connected using a fast fibre optic connection.

So now we have a live file system backup at two physical locations. The Terrastations mirror each other, so in the event of a failure (even though each device is running raid5).
I can just turn to Terrastation 2.

The 1tb of storage on each device means we can keep 5 full days of backed up data online at anyone time.

We still backup on to DAT tape but if we ever need to restore from it, something really bad would have had to happen.
