Thoughts on Windows Vista on Dell XPS M1210 Monday, July 17th, 2006

Based on Beta2

Looks good,
Performance is Beta (Read as I hope it gets better)
Aero is Windows Vista (running it without it like going back to B&W TV, or Windows XP as you know it)
The intel wireless drivers are iffy (they work, but stop for no good reason, but again its pre-release).

I really do like working in Vista, about a year from now its going to be a great place to work everyday.

Brave or Stupid - Dell are Blogging Friday, July 14th, 2006

I wish them all the luck in the world. They are going to need it.

Brave: Because all companies need to reach out to their clients.

Stupid: Because people get really mad at late deliveries or faulty computers and now they have a public forum to air their views.

Dell should run two blogs.

1) One in which they engage discussions about what users want.

2) The complainers blog, let disgruntled users get it of their chests. I bet this would make for uncomfortable reading for Michael Dell.

Download Virtual PC 2004 for Free Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

Microsoft have made Virtual Pc 2004 a free download. It used to be £80.

Link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx

It allows you to run other operating systems on your computer in a virtual window.

I used Virtual PC in a video I created last year

This video is a bit off the beaten track for most non tech users, but it interests me so I am publishing it anyway.

This Video Covers:

Installing Linux in the Microsoft Virtual PC Environment and working around the complexities of installing and compiling drivers under Linux.
