Doing an inline upgrade from Windows Vista 5728 to 5744 was not possible. I had already used my that technique going from 5600 to 5728.

It seems you can only do that once. So a clean install was my only option.

I had a problem in that during the install the installation failed due to DVD media reading issues.

So I rebooted only to find I could not load any operating system. My Laptop dual boots Windows XP and Vista.

The boot manager was corrupt. I have to boot with a XP repair CD and fix the boot problem, re burn the Vista DVD and start again.

Apart from that hitch it all went well. Windows Vista 5744 is now happily installed.

Installing Office 2007 and the Office 2007 Technical Refresh took an additional hour.

I was happy to start again from scratch as I used the previous install to see what 3rd party applications I was going to have a problem with and I had an faulty installation of Camtasia that was annoying me.

So I have a nice stable base to work from.
