Last Working Day of the Year Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Thats right folks today is the last working day of the year (for me at least).

Next year 2007 is my 10th Year running my own technology consultancy and business is good.

When I am not solving I.T problems I am busy developing things like Databases or Internet based presentations and websites and I blog from time to time.

I think I have a healthy attitude towards new technology and in lots of ways 2007 is going to be an interesting year in technology.

Quad Processors
Office 2007
Windows Vista
Windows Mobile 6
Windows Server “longhorn”

So all the staples of I.T get a refresh.

So Happy Christmas and I Hope 2007 is a good one for you.

Using Skype For Business Thursday, December 21st, 2006

I have a client who has opened an Office in China. We shipped the executives off with some inexpensive Skype handsets.

I wasn’t really sure if you could use Skype in China (getting passed the great Chinese Firewall being the problem). Looking into it appears the Chinese Government would like to ban all Skype Usage but to date they haven’t.

So for the cost of a Skype handset (£20 per user) I have their UK/Chinese Offices communicating for free.

If you’re a North West based business looking for help with new technology then get in touch I can help you. Tel: 01606-841587.

About Dell’s Free Vista Upgrade Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I have a Computer system that is eligible for Dell’s Free upgrade to Windows Vista Business . It was purchased after October 26th 2006.

The upgrade is free but there is an £11 pound shipping fee.

All you have to do is

1) Visit http://www.dellvistaupgrade.com
2) Enter in your Dell Service Tag.

The system will check if your system qualifies.

Then you enter your address

Then you have to enter in the serial number of your COA (Certificate of Authenticity) its on the Microsoft sticker on your PC.

Then confirm your billing details and delivery address for the DVD Media to be posted to.

Please note you will need to supply credit card billing information for the shipping fee’s.

Then wait until Feb 2007 and you will receive a Windows Vista Upgrade DVD for your version of Windows.

The retail cost of the upgrade is a hefty £189, so the £11 shipping doesn’t seem so bad.

Being that I am a Microsoft Partner all of this is a mute point I will be shipped my own set of Vista DVD’s in Jan along with Office 2007 and Exchange 2007.

But for the cost of Shipping its still worth it. I have a PC that is Windows XP today and Windows Vista in Feb 2007
