Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite Keyboard + Mouse Review Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Boxed

Unboxed

The first thing you notice about the keyboard is how deep it is, it takes up a lot of room. I see that as a bad thing, but I am sure others would see it as a positive as it does feel quite substantial.

I have two small slim line keyboards on my desk and together these two are still smaller than this keyboard.

We have some new technology to play with:-

4-Way Scrolling: Scroll four ways for greater efficiency and comfort with Tilt Wheel Technology.

You can scroll up/down/left and right. Moving left and right with a mouse feels odd and not very easy to train your brain to remember, after all it’s had 20 year of no left/right mouse scroll.

Magnifier: Point and click to enlarge and edit details using the Magnifier

This is good for image manipulation, but zoom in technology is a part of Windows Vista anyway.

The keyboard has a mouse wheel on the left hand side, this is pretty neat but this feature for me should be on the right not the left.

Additional Features:
High Definition Optical Technology
Longer Battery Life
Wireless Freedom
“My Favorites” Hot Keys
Smart Receiver
Customizable Buttons
Cushioned Palm Rest
Scroll Wheel

Summary

This would be great for a media PC or people with large desks. It is comfortable to use and feels like a quality product.
