Dell XPS M1210 Updated Nvidia 7400 Driver June 2007 Fixes
Since January 2007 I have had to manually force my Dell XPS M1210 video output onto my external Dell 2007WFP display. The laptop is running Windows Vista.
By default you would receive a “out of range” message on the display because the old drivers were supply some wrong information, a resolution the monitor could not cope with.
The video card in the laptop is a Geforce Go 7400
So finally Nvidia have released a set of Drivers for the Geforce Go 7400 that fix this problem.
I downloaded them from Windows Update. They appear as an optional download.
Six months is too long to wait for a fix but I am glad it has finally be addressed.
I took a look at the Windows Experience Index score of the new drivers:-
Desktop Graphics: Before 3.7 After 3.7
Gaming Graphics Before 3.4 After 3.3
So you drop .1 on the gaming performance, it would be nice if newer drivers improved performance as opposed to losing it.

Sorry Khaled the Microsoft Link is currently dead.
You can get a version of the drivers from http://www.support.dell.com assuming you have a dell.
Updated April 2007 for Windows XP
Updated July 2007 for Windows Vista
if you dont have a Dell try your Laptop maker or Nvidia.com

Hi Jovie
The good news is your system should be more stable than it sounds.
I dont play many games on mine, a bit of steam stuff but nothing hardcore.
My current driver is 7.15.11.0144
If you have instant messaging let me know your address and we can have a chat about what the background to the problem is.

i’ve downloaded 1 driver from dell website and i think it works pretty fine.. can play videos and games application. no black screen while trying open all these applications. but sometimes it does appear the black screen and the blue screen error is back again. same thing, problem caused by my display card.. what could cause this ? my laptop temperature could rise until 70 degree.. could this be 1 of the factor affecting my laptop performance ?
i’ve got msn messenger. my address is sjovie_05@hotmail.com
hope to have a chat with you to find out what is the problem is affecting my laptop..
i would appreciate any help from you alot.. thanks in advance..

Hi Jovie
The M1210 does get hot if you are 3d gaming. This is because the Video card is working overtime.
Make sure the underside of the laptop has clear airflow.
If the system gets too hot it will protect its self by throttling some of the performance which might account for screen problems.
A good test would be game for a couple of minutes only then exit and see if you have problems.
Another consideration is RAM. The 7400 uses your main RAM for additional memory. If your ram is faulty then this would also impact on blue screens.
If you are gaming on Vista then you should have at least 2 GB minimum.
I would say the driver you get from Dell (www.support.dell.com) should be the most stable for everyday use.
Using the task manager monitor your system while non gaming and make sure you don’t have anything running in the background that will slow you down like p2p software or over involved Anti-Virus or Internet security software.
Also
Turn off Aero, they system may have problems getting back to a Aero desktop after gaming due to insufficient memory or resources.
I will place a Meebo chat client on the sidebar this week so if you see me online we can discuss further.

i think the solution you provided me help me pretty much.
Bought a fan cooler and place it under my laptop and the problem solved. Just that sometimes the balck screen does appear but no blue screen anymore. So, conclusion is, heat does affect my dislpay card performance.. i think im gonna add another 1 gb ram, sum it up to 2gb for better performance..
Thanks alot for all the information and solution.. Gladly appreciate it
