Interesting read. I’ve been contemplating a laptop upgrade for about a year. Eyeing the xps m1210 is what initially brought me to this site. I love the looks and some of the features/specs of the new 1330, but for some reason I still find myself creeping back to ebay to look at a few of the deals left on the 1210’s (new, sealed-in-box…not used).
I just don’t know if I’m ready yet to go with such small on-board storage, a la SSD, and begin utilizing flash drives and web storage to the degree that a small 32gb drive would require of me.

Hi Terry
I know what you mean.
In the UK the cost of the SSD hard disk is a £399 premium.
SSD is a great technology silent, fast and power efficient but I couldn’t justify the additional expense at this point.
I was looking at dell yesterday and they have withdrawn the Dell XPS M1210 laptop (because of the introduction of the M1330).
If my M1210 combusted and I had to choose a replacement today the M1330 would be very high on my list. I am not totally in love with it, but it’s growing on me.

My XPS1330 is my only computer. I stopped swapping files between desktop and laptop years ago. I use my 1330 almost exclusively with a port extender and a large LCD screen. Thus my big issue with the 1330 is its lack of a dedicated port extender much like my old Latitude and Vaio had, and the 1330’s lack of a DVI output.
Why have just an analog video output?
Why not have a connector for a bridge?
Other than these two items, the 1330 is performing beautifully (since 8/14/07). I must say, the Vista it comes with is buggy. I would choose XP Pro if I had to do it again.

Hi Ozzie
Just read your bio, you seem like an interesting guy.
Anyway the Dell XPS M1330, glad Dell have another happy user.
I was recently tempted by a discounted offer on a M1330, but I managed to hold my resolve.
Docking is a big pain for all the machines in the XPS range and Other Dell Inspirons.
Lots of half solutions, I deal with Dell Latitudes day in/day out and they have a fantastic docking solution I just wish the same was available for my M1210 and your M1330.
Dont worry Windows Vista is just buggy period.

For those of you interested in the details of getting the SSD option with the M1330, I wrote a review on it at: http://www.followsteph.com/2008/02/14/solid-state-drive-ssd-review/
It’s for the 32Gb option, so the 64Gb SSD might be slightly different.
