6 Reasons iWont be an iPhone user yet

Apple announced the availability in the UK will be from November the 9th and the carrier will be O2.

Here are my 6 reasons

6) I need Microsoft Exchange push e-mail support.

5) Yesterday Steve Jobs said they are hard at work on the next version and the version after that. This iPhone is a 1.0 product. I can wait.

4) I don’t need an iPod experience, I hook up my 5th generation video iPod to a Philips DVD player with iPod video support and have iPod video on a 7 inch portable display, the iPhone is only a 3.5 inch display. I don’t want a downgrade.

3) O2 is not my preferred carrier, I use Orange and I am very happy with the cost and data coverage of the Orange network. A Sim unlocked iPhone might be interesting.

2) Lack of 3G in the hardware is major disappointment. My last two smart phones both had 3G.

1) The total cost of ownership for the first 18 months is far too expensive. Cost of iPhone 269 Pounds then factor in 18 months at a minimum of 35 Pounds per month for the O2 Contact = Total of 899 Pounds.

Maybe I am getting old, but I can wait for the price to drop, batteries to get better, have access to more carriers and storage to increase yadda yadda.

I think the recent price drop from $599 to $399 in the states is very telling. Lets face it the majority of people who are interested in the iPhone would get one within the first month or so, then its a much slower trickle of people perhaps waiting for existing contacts to end.

We are also getting mugged in the UK over the unit price. In the States the price is $399 which is approximately 200 pounds, why then is our price 269 pounds?
