Dell Introduce the Crystal 22" LCD

Just to grab some pre 2008 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) gadget buzz Dell have announced a new monitor form factor called the Crystal.

Let me give you some background, at last years Apple Keynote, Steve Jobs had a dig at PC makers and in particular Dell by showing the picture below.

This compares the cable hell of a typical PC vs an iMac, in this case a Dell PC.

So lets look at the Dell PR machine retort. I would say the promo shot below is pretty much their response.

Opinions

Well I would like to applaud the attempt by Dell to raise the bar. However the retro style just doesn’t work for me, just like modern digital radios that try to look like radios from the 50’s. I just find it odd.

The good news for Dell is that I appear to be out of step as other people seem to love this design.

It’s different, but just too weird. Is all that extra glass/plastic at the front necessary? It increases the dimensions unecessarily. Kudos for the attempt to do something new.

    Hi Gary

Happy New Year, hope you have a good one.

I agree a bit too wacky, reading up on the crystal it seems to mange all the power, video and sound from that one cable, which will be great if that technology filters down to the monitors mere mortals can afford.
