The Benefits of going Multi Monitor Friday, January 18th, 2008

I have spend the last few days with my new Twin Monitor setup (not pictured above).

I now have access to a screen resolution of 3200×2250 split over two displays using Nvidia Dualview. Both displays are connected over DVI.

Each individual display is set to the native resolution of the panel so in my case 1680×1050 (Widescreen) and 1600×1200 (4:3 aspect ratio).

Having both a Widescreen and 4:3 displays allows me to dock content on the most appropriate display.

My productivity as gone through the roof.

Like all power users I have many applications running at the same time. However in my case about 10% of my day is spent in remote computers using Remote Desktop or Terminal Services. I can just drag the remote computer display and dock it to a screen while still having my original desktop and applications still viewable.

In fact it is not uncommon for me to be in control of 3 computers simultaneously, both locally and remotely. Doing that even on a large single display is difficult.

I am not new to a Twin monitor setup through the ages I have gone through twin 15″ TFT’s and then twin 17″ TFT’s but in recent times I have been working on a large single display.

I hasn’t taken long to fall back in love with a multi monitor setup.
