I get chills when Ray Ozzie Talks about advertising Monday, March 10th, 2008

Picture: Microsoft’s Ray Ozzie - Chief Software Architect

I get chills, but not in a good way…..

Ray has taken over from Bill Gates in leading the direction and focus of Microsoft.

Now when you are in charge of something that big what you do matters.

At this years Mix08 (a conference all about where the web is going) Ray gave his annual key note speech.

He basically confirmed that Microsoft’s top priority is to get into the online Advertising business.

I know Microsoft needs to be in this market, but what I want from a Chief Software Architect is vision on technology not some Disney style villain with plans for world domination.

I am very disappointed I thought Ray was going to make a real difference and make Microsoft credible again.

They are approaching this all the wrong way. Look at the Google.

Create a Search Engine > Sell Ads > Make Software > Give it away free

The Microsoft’s Way:-

Create Software > Make Software Better > Make Software Worse >  Get into the Advertising Business.

I wish Ray was the great hope, but in my eyes he isn’t.
