Dell confirm they are shipping Windows Vista SP1 worldwide Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

A post on their Direct 2 Dell site from of Friday 6th of June Confirms it.

Vista Service Pack 1 has been officially released since March and is currently roaming the wilds of computers across the globe and Dell is currently shipping it on Vista systems worldwide (for systems using English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish languages with additional languages expected to ship as they become available in the future) .

Note: I received a Laptop that shipped this week and the box contained a Windows Vista SP1 re-install DVD but the computer itself had the original Windows Vista RTM installed.

Tip: The Dell media unlike other Windows Vista DVD Media is only for the supplied version of Windows Vista you purchased with your hardware.

So a Dell DVD for Windows Vista Business SP1 could not be used to install Widows Vista Home Premium SP1.

Tip: The good news is the Windows Vista SP1 DVD media is pre activated. So if you do have to re-install you don’t have additional product activation hoops to jump through.

Firefox 3 to be available for Download today Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Mozilla are releasing the latest version of their very popular Internet Browser: Firefox.

They are attempting a World Record for the most downloads in a single day.

In the UK the download should be available about 5pm.

Congratulations to Mozilla for getting Version 3.0 out the door.

I spend about 50% of my time in Firefox and the other in IE7 so I am looking forward to the new version.

PCMag.com Review the Dell XPS M1730 Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

The guys over at PCMag.com have in for review the updated (Penryn) Dell XPS M1730.

Now a tricked out $4000 laptop is not your average piece of kit and the XPS M1730 stands at the top of Dell’s gaming/performance XPS range.

At 10 pounds its also not that portable. But these laptops are all about the performance.

The review works out at 4/5.
