When you can’t set the optimum resolution for your display.

display

I was deploying a Windows XP based Dell Optiplex GX755 with a Dell 17″ E173FP monitor.

Now this machine had installed an ATI 2600 video card but I just could not get it to set the monitors optimum resolution of 1280×1024.

When I did I could scroll up and down and the entire screen moved with it.

I tried installing the E173FP monitor inf from www.support.dell.com

Windows XP would not install it saying the one I had was good enough.

Tip: To find out your monitor model number go into the on screen display, you can access this from a button on the front on your display.

The ATI Catalyst Control Center wasn’t much use either as this did the same thing.

Tip: Now over the years I have encountered this problem and have always been able to resolve it by re-installing the video card drivers. This must force the re-detection of the display at some lower level and once again this resolved the problem.

Hi, my name is Jim, I’m the Peripherals Liaison for Dell. Where you able to get this to work? You might try the monitor on another computer to isolate it to the computer or monitor.

    Hi Jimmy

Yes re-installing the video driver did fix it.
