Screencast: VPN to RDP on TS Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

VPN=Virtual Private Network
RDP=Remote Desktop Protocol
TS= Terminal Server

This screencast is an overview of how you can use a remote VPN connection to connect to a Head Office and access a shared Microsoft Access database using Windows Terminal Server.

The was originally recorded and published in September 2005 and I have just converted it to flash video. Some of the software mentioned in the screencast is out of date but the general concepts are still sound.

Screencast How to use Windows Live Writer Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

See further down the post for the Screencast.

wlw

Microsoft has just released the latest non beta version of their blog writing tool called Windows Live Writer.

I have been using Windows Live Writer since June 2007 and it really is a delight to use compared to the editing capabilities available inside of Wordpress.

If you blog you should at least try it out. Its free, I like to think of it as the Microsoft Word of Blogging.

Tip: In the above link for Windows Live Writer you can also download other Live.com items, if you only want Windows Live Writer just untick the items you don’t want.

Screencast: BBC iPlayer Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Here is a quick look at what you can do with the BBC iPlayer. The BBC’s Free Video on demand service.

Note: The BBC iPlayer is still in beta, so for your average Joe, avoid.

If you do sign up, some tips for you.

1) You have to create a user profile once you are logged in. The one they give you is only for accessing the site in the first place. Yes that means you have two logins.

2) You can only download the iPlayer after you have dediced what you want to download. So dont waste time looking for the download link.

Screencast: Does Dell Really Send out Spam E-mail? Friday, July 6th, 2007

I sincerely hope not.

Did you ever get a spam e-mail and wonder who sent it….

The background to this screencast is I received an unsolicited e-mail that looks like its part of a Dell sponsored marketing campaign. But with e-mail it’s really difficult to know who is really behind it.

I would like to know if Dell are now in the spam business or is some 3rd party company using a social engineering technique pretending to be Dell to get affiliate marketing business.

Either way someone is doing something wrong.

So I did some research watch the screencast and see what you think.

If anyone from Dell would like to comment please do so in the comments or contact me colindiponio@gmail.com for some additonal background to this issue.
